Welcome to FuturoHouse.net

The Futuro House was designed in 1968 by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen. It was commissioned as a "holiday house" or vacation home. Because it would be used in a mountainside setting, the structure needed to be easy to transport to the site, low maintenance and shed snow easily. The final design of the Futuro House met all those criteria. It's just over 26 feet in diameter and came completely equipped with custom furnishings that fit the interesting shape of this house.

Futuro House

I've always wanted to own one of these rare gems. Well, I finally got my chance and I was able to buy my Futuro. After looking at some original Futuro photos, you can see my Futuro below.

Entry is through a "hatch" stairway, the same as you would imagine in a "real" flying saucer.
The Futuro House
It was originally designed for use as a ski-cabin or holiday home. The design was great for this, as it shed snow well and had low wind resistance.

This is a beautiful shot of a Futuro against the night sky. This one has additional windows under the single row of windows in the mid-section.

My Futuro House

This Futuro has been in its current location in Philadelphia for nearly thirty years.

The January 2012 issue of Vanity Fair features a quick story on the Futuro owned by Mark Haddawy of California. Haddawy has placed his Futuro next to his home, the Harpel House (1956) designed by famed architect, John Lautner. Ironically, the house and Futuro are just yards down the hill from one of Lautner's most famous creations, the Chemosphere.

It's nice to see the Futuro alongside such residential architectural royalty.
